BCCI declares Rishab Pant fit for competitive cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared Indian batsman and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant as fit to make his return to competitive cricket.
Pant will be seen in action in the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is scheduled to begin on Mar 22.
“I’m excited and nervous at the same time. It feels like I’m going to make my debut again,” said Pant upon being declared fit by the BCCI.
After undergoing an intensive rehabilitation and recovery period following a life-threatening road accident, the 26-year-old is poised to make a comeback to professional cricket after a hiatus of 14 months.
“To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle,” Pant affirmed expressing his gratitude to all the well-wishers, fans, and the people who restored him back to form.
Pant is presently being trained in the pre-season training camp at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where his team Delhi Captains will compete in the initial two matches.
“I’m excited to return to Delhi Capitals & the IPL – a tournament I enjoy so much. Our team owners and support staff have been by my side throughout with their full support, guidance and co-operation at every step, for which I am deeply grateful. I can’t wait to reunite with my DC family and play in front of the fans again,” Pant said.
In the latest installment of the ICC review, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting disclosed that Pant's preparation for the new season has been proceeding smoothly. He added that Pant has actively participated in several practice games during the lead-up to the tournament. “He's played some practice matches over the last couple of weeks, which has been really encouraging for us,” Ponting said in the interview.
Pant’s comeback to competitive cricket also signals positive prospects for India, particularly on his potential participation in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 slated for June.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah also disclosed that Pant could be considered for a spot in the T20 World Cup squad, provided he demonstrates proficiency as a wicketkeeper-batter. A stellar IPL season showcasing his prowess with both bat and gloves would further bolster his chances of securing a place in the squad.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Capitals chairman & co-owner Parth Jindal said, “We’re delighted to welcome Rishabh back to the Delhi Capitals family. The kind of grit and resilience he has displayed in overcoming challenges is inspirational to say the least.”
“We’re humbled to have been a part of his journey to recovery, which has been exceptional. Rishabh’s return is one of the most highly anticipated ones in recent times, and I can’t wait to see him compete again,” he added.
Delhi Capitals are set to kick off their IPL 2024 journey against Punjab Kings on March 23, 2024, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mohali.
