Bengali artists Iman Chakraborty and Bickram Ghosh have created a stir in the 2025 Oscars buzz, with their songs Iti Maa and Ishq Walla Daqu competing for a spot in the Best Original Song category.
Chakraborty's Iti Maa, from the Bengali film Putul, is the sole Bengali entry among 79 contenders vying for the category. Reflecting on the achievement, Chakraborty shared her excitement: "Iti Maa has made it to the list of 79 songs as the only Bengali entry. This feels surreal. I’m deeply grateful to our music director, Sayan, and the film’s director for entrusting me with this opportunity.”
Meanwhile, Ghosh’s Ishq Walla Daqu, featuring vocals by Shameek Kundu and Daliya Maity Banerjee, has also joined the race, further bolstering India’s representation at the global awards. Both songs, composed by Sayan Ganguly and Pandit Bickram Ghosh respectively, are generating significant attention as India’s music industry hopes for another milestone win on the global stage.
Adding to the excitement, the scores of both films are also eligible for the Best Original Score category, with 146 entries competing for this honor. This brings recognition to the collective contributions of the five Bengali talents behind the two tracks—Sayan Ganguly, Iman Chakraborty, Pt. Bickram Ghosh, Shameek Kundu, and Daliya Maity Banerjee.
These developments coincide with India’s official entry for the Oscars, Kiran Rao’s Laapata Ladies, increasing anticipation for the nation’s impact at the Academy Awards. The shortlists for Best Original Song and Best Original Score will be unveiled on Dec.17, narrowing the contenders to 15 and 20 entries, respectively.
