According to Cirium's "The On-Time Performance Monthly Report," Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIA), run by Bangalore International Airport Limited, has been the world's most punctual airport for the last three months.

The airport leads the rankings, followed by Salt Lake City International Airport in the USA (87.04 per cent) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad (86.48 per cent).

With 87.51 per cent punctuality in July, 89.66 per cent in August, and 88.51 per cent in September, KIA continued to provide passengers with an excellent on-time departure experience. The percentage of flights that departed within 15 minutes of the planned time is measured by the on-time departure ranking, according to the study.

A comprehensive analysis of flight data for airports across the globe is part of Cirium's stringent evaluation procedure. Airports are grouped according to criteria such as flight volume, gate departure coverage of 80 per cent or more, and seat capacity.

As per the report, the airports were divided into four categories: Medium Airport (15–25 million passengers), Small Airport (5–15 million passengers), Global Airport (25–40 million passengers), and Large Airport (25–40 million passengers).

The airport is the 29th busiest in Asia and the third busiest in India in terms of passenger volume, aviation traffic movements, and total cargo handled, behind the airports in Delhi and Mumbai.

It is situated close to the Devanahalli suburb, approximately 30 kilometres (19 miles) north of the city, and covers an area of 4,000 acres (1,600 ha).

The airport features two runways, the second of which was put into service on December 6, 2019, and two passenger terminals that handle both domestic and international flights. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the second terminal in December 2022. Domestic operations commenced in January 2023, and in September 2023 all international operations were transferred to the new airport.
