Bengaluru-born scholar pioneers AI in education at Purdue

Karen D’Souza, an Indian-origin PhD candidate in artificial intelligence and machine learning at Purdue University is at the forefront of developing AI-driven pedagogical tools that support student engagement and learning outcomes.

D’Souza, who previously earned a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at Purdue, returned to pursue her doctorate after being inspired by the breadth of research at the university’s Department of Computer Science. Since fall 2021, she has been a key member of the research group led by Snehasis Mukhopadhyay, a Purdue professor of computer and information science in Indianapolis.
