Bengaluru-based wildlife photographer Arvind Ramamurthy’s striking image titled, “Wolf Pack”, has earned global recognition as it now competes for the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest in London.

The photograph, featuring five members of an Indian wolf pack in an agricultural field in Maharashtra’s Bhigwan, is the only entry representing India this year. Public voting for the award is open until Jan.29, 2025.

Organized annually by the Natural History Museum in London, the competition draws nearly 60,000 entries worldwide, with only 100 images making it to the final exhibition. This year marks Ramamurthy’s first nomination, though he has been submitting his work since 2016..

A software engineer by profession and R&D Engineer from Bengaluru, Ramamurthy has maintained his childlike curiosity for the natural world. “I discovered my passion for wildlife through art at a young age and continue to use it as a means of expressing my admiration,” he shared.

Ramamurthy’s photographic work focuses on showcasing lesser-known species in unique ways to bring attention to their conservation needs. “Good photographs are a result of a keen sense of observation and a strong thought process behind the image,” he said.

In his widely praised image, “Wolf Pack”, Ramamurthy highlights the plight of Indian wolves, which remain critically endangered. Sharing his concerns on social media, he wrote on X, “With around 3,000 wolves left in the country, the wolf in India is more endangered than the tiger.”

Winners of the award will be announced in February 2025
