President Joe Biden touted the recently released Senate National Security Agreement by stating that it will ensure the border is more secure and fairly promote legal immigration while  upholding the values of the United States.

A bipartisan group of senators unveiled the text of a proposed bill, which seeks to enhance border security and immigration enforcement. Simultaneously, the proposal authorizes increased assistance to Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine.

“It will make our country safer, make our border more secure, treat people fairly and humanely while preserving legal immigration, consistent with our values as a nation,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.

“While this agreement doesn’t address everything I would have wanted, these reforms are essential for making our border more orderly, secure, fair, and humane,” he said, adding that it also stands for freedom in Ukraine, Israel’s fight against Hamas and allows urgent humanitarian aid to enter Palestine.

“I know we have our divisions at home but we cannot let partisan politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation. I refuse to let that happen. In moments like these, we have to remember who we are. We’re the United States of America and there is nothing, nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together,” the President aasserted while urging the Congress to pass the bill so it can be signed into law immediately.

In a similar vein, Vice President Kamala Harris said the proposed bill enables the United States to continue to fulfill its role of global leadership by supporting  their allies.

“Let us remember: we are a nation of immigrants. Immigrants have always helped strengthen our country, grow our economy, and drive innovation. We know that in America, diversity is our strength,” she commented on the immigration related reforms.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer described the bill as the “most necessary and important pieces of legislation” in recent years. According to him the bill equips Congress to confront challenges posed by multiple adversaries who assert “authoritarian influence” around the globe.

“The United States and our allies are facing multiple adversaries who seek to disrupt democracy, and expand authoritarian influence around the globe. These grave threats to US national security require Congress to act with conviction and bipartisanship to confront these challenges,” he maintained.

Apart from that, the Senator highlighted that the  “agreement also includes a historic increase in emergency and operational funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to protect at-risk communities and institutions at home.”

“This moment demands American leadership. It demands the Senate’s decisive action. I have no doubt that the Senate can, once again, rise to the occasion and lead America forward,” Schumer said announcing that he will take the first procedural step to getting the bill passed in the Senate on Monday, with the first vote scheduled for Wednesday.
