Bill Gates meets PM Modi, addresses IITians

The co-founder of Microsoft met various personalities from different fields.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to New Delhi on February 29. 

Their conversation encompassed a wide range of topics including Artificial Intelligence, women-led development, innovation in agriculture, healthcare, climate adaptation, and the potential for India to offer lessons to the global community.

"It is always inspiring to meet with @narendramodi and there was a lot to discuss," Gates said in a post on X. "We talked about AI for public good; DPI; women-led development; innovation in agriculture, health, and climate adaptation; and how we can take lessons from India to the world,” he added.  

A wonderful meeting indeed! Always a delight to discuss sectors which will make our planet better and empower millions of people across the globe. @BillGates,” PM Modi said in response to Gates’ post. 
 



During his visit to India, Gates also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He delivered a talk and engaged with students at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) on the topic 'Innovation for Public Good'.  

Over 1,000 attendees packed the Dogra Hall auditorium for the event, and it was also live-streamed on YouTube, allowing students across various IIT campuses to participate remotely.

During his address, Gates underscored the vital role of emerging technologies in tackling enduring health and development obstacles, stressing the necessity for scalable, cost-effective solutions to ensure equitable delivery. He commended India's advancements in vaccine manufacturing, AI for education, and digital public infrastructure, recognizing their contributions to global public welfare. 

Gates emphasized the significance of collaborative endeavors among educational institutions, the government, and the private sector in fostering innovations that can generate widespread public benefit.

“I hope that as you plot out your future after IIT, you use the skills you sharpened here to improve lives in India and around the world,” said Gates. “There’s a mind-boggling number of ways you can make a difference. I’m excited to see the great things you do for India and the world,” he added.

Gates previously was in Odisha, where he received the KISS humanitarian award and met with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on February 28. During his time in Bhubaneswar, Gates visited a slum and engaged with state government officials to learn about the well-being of its residents. Additionally, he interacted with members of women's self-help groups (SHGs) in the state
