Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha married her longtime boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal in a private ceremony at her Bandra apartment on June 23.
The couple, who have been dating for seven years, celebrated their union with a register marriage followed by a grand reception at Bastian, Dadar.
The couple’s inter-faith marriage was met with immense trolling on social media prompting the newlyweds to disable comments on their wedding photos on Instagram.
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife,” their post read.
Reacting to his daughter's wedding, Sonakshi’s father, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, expressed his joy in an interview with Times Now. “Yeh bhi koi poochne ki baat hai? Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. Unki jodi salamat rahe,” he said.
Shatrughan Sinha reflected on his own marriage while expressing his happiness for his daughter. “44 years ago, Shatrughan Sinha married a very successful, very beautiful, very talented girl of his choice, Poonam Sinha. Now it is Sonakshi’s turn to marry the boy of her choice,” he added.
On the professional front, Sonakshi Sinha recently received widespread acclaim for her performance in "Heeramandi," where her role was praised by both critics and audiences alike. Zaheer Iqbal, who made his debut with "Notebook," is also gearing up for his next venture in the industry.
