Bollywood shines at Indie Film Festival Award nominations

The Indie Film Festival Awards (IFFA) has announced its nominations for 2024, honoring exceptional achievements in both Hollywood and Bollywood cinema. The prestigious festival, scheduled to take place from Jun.2 to Jun.5, at Quad Cinema in New York City, will celebrate the creativity and brilliance of independent filmmakers from around the world. 

With more than 100 films competing, the IFFA 2024 nominations reflect the rich diversity and storytelling excellence that define modern independent cinema. Among the highlights are Bollywood films and actors who have made their mark with outstanding performances and groundbreaking narratives.

The Bollywood segment of the IFFA nominations showcases the exceptional talent and creativity emerging from the Indian film industry.

Here are the nominees in various categories: 

Best Actor (Male)—Akshay Kumar for Sarfira, Ajay Devgan for Maidan, Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion, Rajkumar Rao for Srikanth, and Vikrant Massey for The Sabarmati Exp

Best Actor (Female)—Alia Bhatt for Jigra, Janhvi Kapoor for Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Katrina Kaif for Merry Christmas, Sharvari Wagh for Vedaa, and Yami Gautam for Article 370

Best Film: Article 370, Binny and Family, Chandu Champion, Laapata Ladies, Stree 2

Best Director—Aditya Jambhale for Article 370, Amar Kaushik for Stree 2, Kabir Khan for Chandu Champion, Kiran Rao for Laapata Ladies, and Siddharth Anand for Fighter

Best Debutante—Abhay Verma for Munjya, Anjini Dhawan for Binny and Family, Lakshya for Kill, Nitanshi Goel for Laapata Ladies, Sparsh Srivastav for Laapata Ladies 

OTT—Special Mention: Anupam Kher for Vijay 69, Bhumi Pednekar for Bhakshak, Imtiaz Ali for Chamkila, Panchayat (Amazon Prime Video), and The Great Indian Kapil Show (Netflix).
