British Council launches GREAT scholarships for Indian students in UK

The scholarship will enable Indian students to enroll in one-year taught postgraduate courses at prestigious UK universities during the 2025-26 academic year.

The British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities, has launched the GREAT Scholarships 2025, offering Indian students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom across a range of disciplines.

The scholarship program, introduced in collaboration with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign, will provide 26 scholarships to students from India, enabling them to enroll in one-year taught postgraduate courses at prestigious UK universities during the 2025-26 academic year. Each scholarship is valued at a minimum of US$10,240 (£10,000), covering tuition fees across various fields of study.

Indian students can apply for the GREAT Scholarships 2025 at 26 leading UK institutions, including Aston University, Brunel University of London, Cranfield University, City University of London, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Manchester, among others. Eligibility criteria

To qualify for the GREAT Scholarships 2025, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen and resident of India.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree and demonstrate motivation and interest in the chosen field of study.
  • Meet the English language requirements set by the respective UK institution.
  • Show commitment to engaging with the UK through academic and personal development.
  • Be willing to participate in networking events with fellow GREAT scholars in the UK to share experiences and insights.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships and maintain contact with the British Council and their respective higher education institutions.
  • As alumni, scholars should be open to sharing their experiences with future applicants.

Application process

Applicants interested in the scholarship must follow these steps:

  • Visit the university’s official webpage and navigate to the scholarship section.
  • Apply for individual scholarships by following the instructions outlined on each university’s scholarship page.
  • Note that application deadlines vary by institution; candidates are advised to check the specific deadlines listed on their chosen university’s page.
  • Selected scholars will be notified of their application results directly by the respective universities.
  • Scholarship funding will be disbursed to successful candidates upon completion of the registration process at the university.

The GREAT Scholarships initiative aims to support talented Indian students in accessing world-class education in the UK while fostering deeper academic and cultural ties between the two nations.
