The Uttar Pradesh Community Association (UPCA) celebrated Uttar Pradesh Day on Jan. 22 in the British Parliament, marking a significant milestone for the Indian diaspora in the UK.
The event drew over 5,000 members of the UPCA, a vibrant community of Uttar Pradesh-origin residents living in Great Britain, under the leadership of its president, Madhuresh Mishra.
In his opening remarks, Mishra highlighted the association's commitment to fostering cultural ties and promoting the heritage of Uttar Pradesh on a global stage. He emphasized that UPCA functions as a family for its members, preserving traditions and celebrating the achievements of the Uttar Pradesh diaspora.
Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brijesh Pathak, addressed the gathering virtually, sharing insights into the state’s rapid development and modernization under the current administration.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including British members of Parliament Navendu Mishra and Bob Blackman, former British member of Parliament Virendra Sharma, and former deputy Mayor of London Rajesh Agrawal.
Navendu Mishra, whose family traces its roots to Uttar Pradesh, lauded the significant political and cultural contributions of the Indian community in the UK.
Blackman commended the Government of India and Uttar Pradesh for their efforts in fostering progress and acknowledged the critical role of the Uttar Pradesh diaspora on the global stage.
Sharma recognized the unparalleled contributions of the Indian community to the UK’s economic, social, and educational sectors, while Agrawal shared his personal experiences of visiting Uttar Pradesh, encouraging others to explore the state’s rich culture and heritage.
The event featured captivating performances, including dances dedicated to Lord Ganapati and Lord Shiva, and a soulful Mangal song by a trio.
Ashwani Shrivastav, UPCA’s general secretary, also provided an engaging overview of Uttar Pradesh’s impressive strides in development, further inspiring pride among attendees.
The event was planned by a dedicated team, including Virendra Mishra, Santosh Pandey, Arun Chaubey, Rajesh Vishwakarma, Vaishali Nagpal, Piyushita Khandelwal Gupta, Rajiv Gupta, Nishtha Dwivedi, Ashish Mishra, Subhash Barnwal, Rohin Grover, Pankaj Mishra, and Indresh Mishra.
In his closing remarks, Mishra extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants and organizers, expressing pride in hosting Uttar Pradesh Day on such a prestigious international platform for the first time.
