Indian-American surgeon Appannagari “Dev” GnanaDev, has been announced as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award by California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), as part of its annual Alumni Hall of Fame Awards to recognize the professional accomplishments and community service of distinguished alumni.
GnanaDev, who graduated with an MBA in 2001, will be honored at the university’s Alumni Hall of Fame event on April 25, 2025. He currently serves as the chairman of the Surgery Department at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in Colton.
A skilled surgeon specializing in vascular, general, and trauma surgery, GnanaDev is also the founder and president of Cal Med Physicians and Surgeons.
He was the medical director at ARMC from 2000 to 2012 and served as president of the California Medical Association (CMA) from 2008 to 2009, a position held by only three physicians from San Bernardino County in the last 150 years.
GnanaDev’s contributions to the medical field have earned him numerous accolades, including the American Medical Association Foundation Excellence in Medicine Award and the Medical Board of California’s Physician of the Year Award.
His leadership and dedication to healthcare are reflected in his service on the CSUSB Philanthropic Foundation Board and his recognition as the Distinguished Executive of the Year by the university.
GnanaDev earned his medical doctorate from Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool, India and served his residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, Newark, New Jersey.
CSUSB president Tomás D. Morales praised GnanaDev for embodying excellence and innovation, noting that his achievements inspire the campus community and enhance the university’s legacy. “The Hall of Fame celebration is a unique opportunity to recognize these extraordinary individuals whose achievements inspire our campus community and elevate the university's legacy on a global scale."
