The Canadian men's hockey team beat the Americans, 3-2, in a thrilling match to back up their 3-1 victory in the group stage. Canada has now won 15 medals overall at these Olympic Games, including this bronze in hockey.

Only the Games' gold medalist gains automatic qualification for the following summer's Olympics, so their victory does not exempt them from participating in the Olympic qualifier.

Oliver Schofield, who was playing his 100th international Canada, had every reason to feel special as he celebrated this special occasion with a goal, the third and final goal for  Canada. Oliver scored from a rebound after a penalty corner flick by skipper Gordon Johnston had been padded by the US goalkeeper.

In the 11th minute, Canada went ahead when Brenden Guraliuk scored on the rebound of a penalty corner. Christian Deangelis scored for the United States just before halftime to pull his team even. A minute earlier a field goal was disallowed by the Video Umpire as Canadians held that it came from a back stick.

Boothroyd put Canada ahead with a brilliant field goal in the third quarter. Oliver Schofield scored off of a penalty corner rebound to put Canada up 3-1. USA at last made use of one of its six penalty corners when Aki Kaeppeler found the target in the 54th minute.

Canada were content to play out the rest of the time to avoid any further damage to continue with its tradition of winning a medal in each of the editions of the hockey competition of the Games.
