Censor Board bans ‘Political War’; NY-based filmmaker appeals to PM Modi
India’s censor board rejected the filmmaker’s ‘Political War’, claiming actors resemble certain politicians.

Mukesh Modi, a New York-based filmmaker, has appealed to Indian PM Narendra Modi after India’s statutory film-certification body refused to provide a censor clearance certificate to his movie titled “Political War”.
Mukesh, who is currently in Mumbai, India, to get his film certified for a theatrical release, said that the movie was initially named ‘2024 Election War’. It was later renamed as ‘Political War’ after the Censor Board’s objection. He added that the movie was rejected even after being submitted to the revising committee with the suggested changes.
According to the filmmaker, the board rejected certification for the movie claiming that the faces of the actors resembled Indian politicians.
Frustrated by the result, Mukesh appealed to PM Modi regarding the Censor Board’s “unsatisfactory” response. He urged the PM to appoint competent people to the Board and improve the system to help filmmakers save their time and money.
In a social media post, the filmmaker shared a video he shot at the CBFC office, and raised objections to certifications for movies like the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Animal’ and Prabhas-starrer ‘Adipurush’. Mukesh alleged Animal was an end-to-end violent movie with a misogynistic tone.
He further stated that the movie, which was fanning violent emotions among the nation’s youth should have never made it to the screens, while his movie, which showcases how external powers and corrupt politicians are trying to divide India is not being supported by the board.

In a statement, the filmmaker maintained that his movie will be released overseas and on OTT platforms on February 16. He added that the movie aims to motivate the community to vote, expose corrupt politicians, expose corrupt foreign resources, and send a message that India believes in unity in diversity.
