CGI New York highlights initiatives to improve consular services
The Consul General emphasized the consulate’s commitment to digital innovation.

Binay Srikant, the Consul General of India in New York, described a number of critical initiatives that are designed to enhance consular services for the Indian diaspora during a recent press conference that took place at the consulate.
The CG emphasized the consulate's ongoing endeavors to address the concerns of Indian nationals residing in the United States, as well as to improve accessibility and transparency. He emphasized the consulate’s commitment to digital innovation, noting the introduction of several tools designed to streamline the process of accessing consular services.
Among these are ‘Pramit’, a digital assistance platform, the ‘Bharti Chatbot’, and a dedicated mobile app. These tools are part of a broader push towards making consular services more user-friendly and efficient.

Speakers at the press conference. / X/@IndiainNewYorkHe also stressed the importance of ‘vigilance against fraudulent activities’, urging the community to avoid unscrupulous agents who overcharge and submit fraudulent documents on behalf of applicants. Srikant warned against the rising number of fake websites that falsely claim to offer official consular services, underlining the need for public awareness.
In addition to digital advancements, the Consul General highlighted the availability of 365-day emergency services and the organization of regular consular camps in various cities to better serve the community. He also mentioned a specialized portal featuring a panel of attorneys to provide legal assistance, and the launch of a weekly open house where applicants can meet with Consular Officers without prior appointments.

Recognizing the unique needs of Indian students in the United States, the Consul General introduced several student-centric initiatives, including an internship portal and panels of doctors and lawyers available for consultation. Additionally, a special open house with Consular Education Executives has been established to address student-specific concerns.
Srikant concluded by expressing his gratitude to media representatives for their enthusiastic participation and insightful questions during the interaction. He acknowledged the media's crucial role in disseminating important information to the wider Indian community in the United States.
