Chandigarh University, a leading higher education institution based in Punjab, has launched the e-Sanad portal, an initiative by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
This portal offers students a centralized, contactless, faceless, cashless, and paperless solution for the verification of their educational documents, particularly benefiting those applying to foreign universities or seeking work permits abroad.
The launch ceremony, held at the university campus, was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Dilip Kumar Jha, principal secretary, department of Non Resident Indians (NRI) Affairs, Punjab, and Sanyam Aggarwal, director of higher education, Punjab.
Also present were Inder Pal Singh Sethi, deputy director general, National Informatics Centre (NIC), and Vivek Verma, state information officer and deputy director general (NIC), alongside Prof. (Dr) RS Bawa, Advisor to the chancellor of Chandigarh University.
Speaking at the event, Rajya Sabha MP and Chandigarh University chancellor, Satnam Singh Sandhu, said, "The launch of the e-Sanad portal at Chandigarh University provides a centralized online platform for the attestation and apostille of our students' documents. This will be particularly useful for students who require their academic certificates to be authenticated by foreign institutions."
Sandhu also emphasized the university’s commitment to global education standards. "With over 3,000 students from 60 countries studying here and more than 1,900 of our students participating in international academic programs, the e-Sanad portal will offer a transparent, accessible, and affordable solution for document verification from anywhere in the world," he added.
Dilip Kumar Jha, principal secretary of NRI affairs, Punjab, praised Chandigarh University for being the first institution to embrace this initiative. "The state government approached 30 universities for launching the e-Sanad portal, but Chandigarh University was the first to respond positively. This will save students the hassle of traveling back to the university for verification, as the entire process can now be completed online," Jha said.
