In a strategic move to advance the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the food industry, Chef Robotics has appointed Somudro Gupta as its head of software.
Gupta was earlier the head of autonomous vehicle engineering at Embark Trucks. During his five-year tenure at Embark, he played a pivotal role in the development of autonomous vehicle technology.
Prior to his role at Embark, Gupta worked at the Volkswagen Electronics Research Laboratory as US Motion Planning Lead for Jack, a self-driving Audi A7.
Reacting to his appointment, Gupta said, “My career in autonomous driving taught me how to build and deploy intelligent robots in the real world. I believe the physical world is the next frontier for AI, and I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned (while combining my interests in food and robots) to a company like Chef to scale deployments at customer sites around the world.”
The company stressed Gupta’s experience in AI, particularly in autonomous systems, positioning him as a key player in scaling up robotic solutions globally.
Chef Robotics is known for its AI-enabled robots designed to alleviate labor shortages and enhance production volume in the food industry.
With over 1 million meals produced to date, the company has deployed robots in food companies across the US and Canada. Looking ahead, Chef Robotics plans to more than quadruple its fleet in 2024.
“The appointment of Somudro Gupta signals Chef Robotics’ commitment to accelerating the deployment of intelligent machines in the physical world,” the company noted in a news release.
