Rare at Blue Haven Hotel in Cork, Ireland, under the helm of executive chef Meeran Gani Manzoor, has been awarded the prestigious title of Best Fine Dining Restaurant at the Virgin Media Gold Medal Awards. The restaurant was honored at a ceremony held on Jan. 28.

Chef Manzoor, from Chennai, assumed the role of executive chef at the Blue Haven Collection in 2019 and opened Rare in 2020 with a vision to combine the rich flavors of traditional South Indian cuisine with the finest locally sourced ingredients from Ireland. His innovative culinary approach has earned Rare a reputation for its exceptional menu, which pairs these distinctive flavors with a sophisticated dining experience.

In addition to the culinary offerings, the restaurant recently underwent a redesign of its interiors, aligning the aesthetic sophistication of the space with the refinement of the dishes served. This transformation has further enhanced Rare's standing as one of the finest dining establishments in Ireland.

Indian chef Manzoor's culinary journey began at an early age when he started cooking for his family at just 12 years old. At 17, he moved to London to pursue a degree in culinary arts.

His career has spanned some of the world's most renowned establishments, including the Metropolitan Hotel in Park Lane, 45 Park Lane at The Dorchester, and Frenchman’s Creek in Florida, in addition to several prestigious restaurants in Belgium. His expertise, honed through years of experience in top-tier kitchens, has been integral to Rare’s success and rise to prominence.

In December 2024, Rare was included for the first time in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland.
