Coca-Cola India and the ICC unveiled post-consumer PET bottle-made national flags during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 match opening ceremony. The yarn made from these recycled PET bottles was then applied to the flags. These flags will be displayed during the 'national anthem ritual' that takes place in the stadiums before each game.
Arnab Roy, vice president, of marketing, Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia said, "Coca–Cola has a mission to support sustainability efforts as an integral part of all sporting events. Aligned with this mission, we take pride in unveiling national flags made with recycled PET at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 today. With these recycled national and ICC Unity flags, we are dedicated to advancing the principles of a circular economy."
Coca-Cola India has made it possible to create the national flags of the ten participating countries as well as the ten ICC unity flags, ushering in a new era of environmental responsibility. This establishes a standard for other occasions and makes Coca-Cola India the first firm in the world to use recycled PET national flags in the game of cricket.
A national flag required over 11,000 PET bottles to manufacture, while an ICC Unity Flag required roughly 2,000 bottles. The flags are produced by GoRevise by Ganesha Ecoverse Limited, which also produces recycled yarn and clothing. These amazing flags were created over 25 days and more than 300 hours by a committed team of 100 artisans.
