"In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, we come together to mourn the loss of a cherished member of our community. His absence leaves a profound void, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him,” the campaign message reads.
A 45-year-old resident of Greenville, South Carolina, Chabba, who serves as a regional vice president with Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, was present on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee for work when a shooting incident took place near the Student Union Building. The attack also claimed the life of Robert Morales, a longtime FSU dining coordinator, and injured six others.
The suspected shooter, 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner, was apprehended after being shot by law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attack, but Ikner's background includes a history of family legal disputes and personal trauma.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Chabba family is seeking justice and support. Civil rights attorney Bakari Sellers, representing the family, emphasized the profound impact of Chabba's loss on his wife and children.
FSU has also established a Student Emergency Fund to provide financial support to students and families affected by the shooting.
