Dallas gets new cricket team
The team will be part of the recently launched National Cricket League

Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson recently announced the formation of the National Cricket League (NCL), which will include a new cricket team for the city. In December, the league will hold its inaugural tournament, a nonstop cricket competition lasting nine days.
The launch of the Dallas franchise was celebrated by the Mayor in the presence of NCL CEO Azhar Qasmi, Dallas business executive Arun Agarwal in his role as NCL chairman and advisor, former International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Haroon Lorgat, and a number of professional cricketers and celebrities.

According to a release, the league aims to introduce the short, fast-paced form of cricket, called “sixty strikes”, to the United States, where recently multiple formats of cricket have been gaining popularity. It will include six teams with international players, coaches and mentors from all over the world.
“It is my hope that we will be able to cheer on our city’s team in a stadium in Dallas soon. The National Cricket League has my full support as it works to bring the first dedicated cricket stadium to Dallas,” said Mayor Johnson. “If you aren’t already one of the 30 million cricket enthusiasts in America, now is the time to familiarize yourself with the sport,” he added..
Commenting on the Dallas team, Agarwal said, “This will be a Dallas team. When we say Dallas, we mean Dallas – not Arlington, not Frisco. We’re proud to create another team to represent our city.”
Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, will host the inaugural league tournament from December 19-29. The nine-day event will not only feature cricket but also 30+ performances from celebrities from all over the world.
