The Dance Mission Theatre is set to host an evening of art and dialogue centered on Asian American experience on Apr. 26 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 3316 24th Street, San Francisco.

The special event will begin with a performance of Two Doors, a dance choreographed by SanSan Kwan. Two Doors draws inspiration from a 2021 incident in New York City in which doormen closed their doors just after witnessing an attack on an Asian woman outside on the sidewalk in front of their lobby.

According to an official statement, Two Doors explores the viscerality of anti-Asian racism and sovereignty. “Through a choreographic study of the aftermath of violence, this work depicts a journey toward self-possession via relational vulnerability.” It will take the audience on a journey towards relational vulnerability, opening a portal into an array of explorations on liminality and resilience.

Discussions will focus on arts, research, and community healing shaping each other.
