The deaths of an affluent Indian-origin couple and their daughter in Massachusetts have been ruled as murder-suicide by state medical authorities following autopsy findings, NBC Boston reported.

The bodies of Rakesh Kamal, 57, his wife Teena Kamal, 54, and their daughter Arianna Kamal, 18, were discovered in their $5 million mansion in Dover, Massachusetts on December 28, 2023. During the investigation, authorities also discovered a firearm near Rakesh Kamal.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey's office in a press conference shared details of autopsy results from the office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The autopsy ruled Teena and her daughter Arianna’s deaths as homicide by gunshot.

Rakesh, on the other hand, succumbed to a "gunshot wound consistent with being self-inflicted." A conclusive autopsy report is expected to be completed in the upcoming weeks.

The origin of the firearm involved in the shooting, believed to be a .40-caliber Glock 22, remains under investigation. Testing on the firearm is also underway as part of the investigation. Police have sought assistance from federal gun experts to analyze the weapon.

While a motive behind the incident is yet to be officially disclosed, domestic violence is emerging as a prominent consideration in the case.
