The Congress did not attend the consecration ceremony of Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya terming it a political event of the BJP.Senior leaders of the Congress – former president Sonia Gandhi, incumbent president Mallikarjuna Kharge, Leader of the Party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudary and Former PM Manmohan Singh -- were extended an invitation.
