Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki has collected about US$ 6.7 million (₹56 crore) on the first day, US$ 2.65 million overseas and approximately US$ 4 million (₹34 crore) in India.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, the film, released on December 21, 2023, bagged the fourth largest opening of the year in Bollywood, after Pathaan, Jawan and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal.
As the holiday season begins with this weekend, the movie is anticipated to collect US$ 12 million to US$ 13 million over the weekend. In the domestic market, the movie is facing a box office clash with actor Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Salaar.
The comedy drama Dunki, translated as Donkey flight, is based on the eponymous illegal immigration technique. The film is directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who was behind blockbuster films such as Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju, Aamir Khan's PK, 3 idiots, and R Madhavan's Irudhi Suttru.
Dunki is produced under the bannners of Red Chillies Entertainment, Jio Studios and Rajkumar Hirani Films. The movie features actors Taapsee Pannu, Doman Irani, and Vicky Kaushal in special appearance. The film's music is composed by Pritam and background score by Aman Pant. CK Muraleedharan, Manush Nandan and Amit Roy handled the cinematography.
Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in director Atlee's Jawan, an action thriller film. Actor Pannu was known for her first production venture of horror-thriller film Blurr in December 2022, released online on Zee5. A remake of the Spanish thriller film Julia's Eyes (2010), and this her third film to be remade from a Spanish original, after Badla (2019) and Dobaara (2022).
