Elizabeth Lee takes over as director of American Center Kolkata
She succeeds the former Director and PAO, Adrian Pratt.
Elizabeth Lee has taken on the role of director of the American Center Kolkata and Public Affairs Officer (PAO) at the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata, as of August 9. She succeeds the former Director and PAO, Adrian Pratt.
“I am delighted to be here in Kolkata and to represent the United States of America in East and Northeast India,” said Lee. “I look forward to engaging with the people and learning about their heritage and culture as we work together to advance the U.S.-India partnership in this region.”
Lee has held diverse Public Affairs positions in cities such as Riyadh, Tokyo, Islamabad, and Lahore. While in Washington D.C., she was part of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), specializing in Europe and working on refugee matters in Moldova. Her roles also included being a unit chief in the Counterterrorism Bureau's Office of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS (CT/SECI) and covering humanitarian issues in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR). She joined the State Department in 2009.
Lee is originally from southwestern West Virginia. She holds a degree in journalism from Marshall University. Her linguistic abilities include proficiency in Japanese, Urdu, and some Arabic.
