Three Indian-American medical professionals have filed a civil rights lawsuit against Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) and three other medical organizations, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation in their workplaces.

The lawsuit, filed on Jan.28 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, names NGHS, Northside Hospital, Georgia Urology, and Northeast Georgia Physicians Group as defendants. The plaintiffs—Dr. Kapil Pareek, Dr. Jyoti Manekar, and Dr. Anisha Patel—claim their professional practices were deliberately undermined and that they were subjected to baseless accusations questioning their fitness for duty.

According to the lawsuit, the alleged discrimination and retaliation continued even after their practices were transferred from NGHS to Northside Hospital and Georgia Urology. The doctors state that after reporting discriminatory treatment based on their Indian heritage, they faced retaliatory actions that impacted their careers.

In response, NGHS  attorney Andria Lure Ryan said,  “Given this is active litigation, we are not in a position to comment and look forward to contesting the claims in court,” Ryan stated.

She further emphasized, "We value the diversity of our employees and stand behind NGHS policies that the organization complies with applicable Federal and State civil rights laws and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, or any other basis protected by law."

The lawsuit is expected to proceed in federal court in the coming months.
