Indian American Congressman Ami Bera has been reappointed to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for the 119th Congress, marking a continuation of his commitment to national security and bipartisan collaboration.
In a statement following his reappointment, Rep. Bera expressed gratitude to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for the opportunity to contribute to the critical work of the committee. “Honored to be reappointed by Rep. Jeffries to serve on House Intelligence Democrats for the 119th Congress! I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure our intelligence agencies operate effectively and with integrity to safeguard our great nation," his post read.
Bera emphasized the importance of the committee’s work during a time of global instability and domestic challenges, underscoring his dedication to maintaining the independence and objectivity of U.S. intelligence agencies. “With more than a decade of experience working on critical national security issues, I take seriously the responsibility entrusted to me to protect and defend American families while ensuring the Intelligence Community operates effectively and with integrity,” he added.
In addition to his intelligence committee role, Rep. Bera has been reappointed as the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific. He highlighted the strategic significance of the region in another post, saying, “This region is vital for our national security, economic interests, and values as we work to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Bera outlined his priorities for the subcommittee, including countering aggressive actions by the People’s Republic of China, securing critical supply chains, and bolstering alliances. “I am committed to working with both my Democratic and Republican colleagues to address the many challenges facing the region,” he said. “Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous future for all nations in the East Asia and Pacific region and beyond.”
