Anand Sharma, an Indian American Shrewsbury resident and community leader, has officially announced his candidacy for the Shrewsbury Select Board.
A seasoned professional, Sharma holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He currently serves as an information technology specialist at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, Massachusetts. Sharma has called Shrewsbury home since 2001 and resides in town with his wife, Meenu, and their two children, Jiya and Arvin.
“I am deeply honored to seek the opportunity to serve on the Select Board and give back to a town that has given my family so much,” said Sharma. “I believe in collaborative leadership and a shared vision for Shrewsbury’s continued success. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected, and future-ready community.”
While announcing his candidacy, Sharma emphasized three primary goals:
The annual town election for the Shrewsbury Select Board will be held on May.6.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sharma currently serves as a town meeting member.
He is a member of the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee, helping to honor and celebrate Shrewsbury’s rich heritage. As vice president of the Spirit of Shrewsbury (SOS), Sharma plays a key role in organizing the town’s annual Fall Festival, a cornerstone event that fosters community pride and connection.
Sharma is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury, where he has spearheaded initiatives including blood drives, electronics recycling, and food distribution efforts. His leadership and volunteer work extends to programs such as the Adopt-A-Highway initiative, International Women’s Day celebrations, and marathon support with the Boston Athletic Association.
Sharma also serves as Vice President of FIA—New England, a grassroots nonprofit supporting the Indian American community. In this role, he organized the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Shrewsbury.
