Indian-origin sitarist Anoushka Shankar has been announced as a presenter at the 67th Grammy Awards, set to take place on Feb. 2.

The British-American musician, who has received 11 Grammy nominations, expressed her excitement over the opportunity to represent India at the global music event.

In an Instagram post, Shankar shared her enthusiasm, writing, “What a thrill to be asked to serve as a presenter at the 67th GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony this Sunday! The last time I presented was in 2016 - an extraordinary day, not only because I was nominated for my 5th Grammy for my classical album ‘Home,’ but also because I was the first Indian musician ever to present at the ceremony. Although so much has changed (personally and globally) over the last nine years, I find myself once again in the wonderful position of representing India on the global stage.”

Shankar, the daughter of legendary Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar, has been a prominent figure in both classical and contemporary music. She has collaborated with artists across genres, including electronic music producer Karsh Kale and jazz musician Jacob Collier.

Apart from her role as a presenter, Shankar is also nominated in two categories this year. Her album Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn and her feature on Collier’s A Rock Somewhere has earned her 10th and 11th Grammy nods, in Best New Age, ambient or Chant Album, and best global music album categories respectively.

“These nominations bring me into unfathomable double-digits of Grammy nominations, being my 10th and 11th ones respectively. I’m so grateful,” she remarked.

The 67th Grammy Awards will be streamed live at live.grammy.com and will raise funds for wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles. The ceremony will feature performances by Chris Martin, Cynthia Erivo, John Legend, and Stevie Wonder.
