Democratic candidate for Georgia State Senate District 48, Ashwin Ramaswami has received an endorsement of US Senator Jon Ossoff in a major boost to his election campaign. Ossoff made an official announcement of his endorsement on July.1.

Ramaswami’s campaign against incumbent State Senator Shawn Still has gained significant momentum in light of Still’s indictment alongside Donald Trump in Georgia for trying to overturn the 2020 election results. “Ashwin Ramaswami would be a tireless advocate for democracy and his constituents in the Georgia State Senate,” said Senator Ossoff.

Highlighting the clear distinction between the candidates he said, “The contrast could not be clearer: Ashwin is a former election security expert and he is running against a MAGA politician alleged to have participated in an effort to steal the 2020 election when Raphael Warnock and I were on the ballot. It’s not an exaggeration to say that democracy is on the ballot in Senate District 48. We need Ashwin in the State Senate – and I’m proud to stand behind him in this race.”

Ramaswami, a 24-year-old recent graduate of Georgetown University, is running as a candidate for the Democratic Party. If elected, he would become the youngest representative ever elected in the state of Georgia, as well as the first Indian-American to hold this position in Georgia. Ramaswami's parents immigrated to the United States from Tamil Nadu in 1990.

Ashwin Ramaswami expressed his gratitude for Ossoff's endorsement, highlighting the Senator's accomplishments and the stakes of the upcoming election.

“From delivering billions in Georgia infrastructure upgrades to tackling climate change to strengthening our cybersecurity – Senator Ossoff has been a champion for Georgia,” said Ramaswami, adding, “But those successes only go so far if they’re eroded by far-right Republicans like my opponent at the state level. I’m so grateful to earn Senator Ossoff’s support, and I look forward to working with him in the fight to expand healthcare access, invest in housing options, and protect our elections from extremists who seek to undermine them.”

Senator Ossoff is a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC), which oversees the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Ramaswami left his job working in election security at CISA to run against Shawn Still.

As of the latest finance report, he has outraised his opponent, raising over $280,000 in his grassroots campaign. He is working to focus on issues like funding schools, supporting small businesses, preparing citizens for the technology of the future, and protecting the right to vote.

This district is the most competitive seat in the Georgia Senate and top pickup opportunity for Georgia Democrats. It went 48-52 Biden-Trump in 2020 and was won by Warnock 51-49 in the 2022 election.
