Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval addresses Democratic National Convention
Pureval turned his focus to a long-standing issue in Cincinnati: the Brent Spence Bridge.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval took the stage on the third night of the Democratic National Convention on Aug.21. Hei delivered a speech that highlighted his city's recent achievements and expressed strong support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Pureval began by introducing himself emphasizing his Asian American background. "I am the first Asian American mayor in the great city of Cincinnati," he stated. He shared his personal story as the son of a Tibetan refugee mother and an Indian father, who instilled in him the importance of keeping promises.
The Mayor turned his focus to an issue in Cincinnati: the Brent Spence Bridge. The bridge is a vital connector between Ohio and Kentucky. "For years, politicians came through my city and promised to fix the Brent Spence Bridge," he said. Pureval named former President Donald Trump among those who failed to deliver on such promises. However, he praised the Biden-Harris administration for breaking the cycle of empty words.
"Joe Biden told Cincinnatians, we're going to fix that damn bridge. And four months later, he signed the bipartisan infrastructure law," Pureval recounted. He pointed to the significant impact of the legislation on his city. The Mayor described the infrastructure investment as the largest in the city's history. He said that the bill would "stitch our communities back together" and finally resolve the decades-old issue with the Brent Spence Bridge.
In his concluding remarks, Pureval drew a sharp contrast between what he described as "hollow promises" of the past and the "solid progress" delivered by the current administration. He expressed confidence that under Harris's leadership, this progress would only continue, underscoring his belief in "true, honest to God, public service."
The four-day convention has drawn thousands to Chicago showcasing the Democratic Party's enthusiasm for Harris's historic nomination. Pureval's speech was one of many from prominent Democratic figures. Many have rallied to support Harris for the upcoming election and celebrate her recent achievements.
