Arizona State University (ASU) has announced the appointment of biomedical informatics and population health sciences expert, Jyotishman Pathak as the first dean of its School of Technology for Public Health, effective July 1, 2025.
The school, a pioneering initiative under ASU Health, aims to integrate technology and data-driven solutions to address critical public health challenges. It will welcome its first cohort of students in its Master of public health and Master of public health technology programs in fall 2025.
“Pathak is an ideal leader for our new School of Technology for Public Health. He has been leading an extremely productive and well-funded program of research utilizing medical informatics and digital health technologies, including AI, to design and deploy solutions to a range of critical health problems,” Nancy Gonzales, ASU executive vice president and provost said.
Pathak currently serves as the Frances and John L. Loeb Professor of Medical Informatics at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. His research focuses on mental health service utilization, treatment outcomes, and social determinants of health. He co-founded Iris OB Health, a startup developing digital solutions for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
“I am truly honored and humbled to serve as the inaugural dean of ASU’s School of Technology for Public Health. I am excited to partner with faculty, students, staff and communities across Phoenix and Arizona to reimagine and advance public health infrastructure, education and scholarship for the 21st century,” Pathak said.
A prolific scholar with over 275 publications, Pathak has received numerous accolades, including awards from the American Medical Informatics Association and the American Heart Association. In 2023, he was appointed to the National Advisory Mental Health Council.
He holds a bachelor of engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, and a Ph.D from Lowa State University.
