The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), Australia, recently inaugurated Tapomurti, a striking 49-foot metal statue of Neelkanth Varni, at its expansive 25-acre precinct in Sydney.

On Mar. 6, it was consecrated by the revered spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj.

BAPS shared the event pictures on Instagram and wrote, “Swaamishri performs the Murti Pratishtha of the 49 Feet Tapo Murti of Nilkanth Varni at Sydney, Australia.”

Positioned in the Neelkanth Plaza section of the precinct, the statue depicts the youthful form of Lord Swaminarayan in a meditative pose. Surrounding it are 14 inscribed epigraphs, each highlighting timeless virtues such as integrity, self-discipline, tolerance, service, and love—values said to have been exemplified by Neelkanth Varni during his legendary 12,000-kilometer journey across India and Nepal.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior federal ministers Chris Bowen and Michelle Rowland, who welcomed Mahant Swami Maharaj, the 93-year-old global head of the Swaminarayan tradition, to Sydney for the consecration ceremony.

The statue and the surrounding gardens took nearly a year to build. The precinct is open to people of all faiths and belief systems.

BAPS is a global Hindu organization, founded by Shastriji Maharaj in 1907.
