BJUS celebrates Holi and Women’s Day in Schaumburg

The celebration featured cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and interactive games.

The Bihar Jharkhand Association of Midwest (BJUS) hosted a celebration combining Holi festivities with Women’s Day observances on March 8.

Over 300 people attended the event, which took place at the National India Hub in Schaumburg and included cultural performances, food, and community engagement sessions.

The event began with high school students performing the U.S. and Indian national anthems. Traditional dance and musical performances followed, along with a diya lighting ceremony symbolizing hope and unity. Organizers also arranged a face painting station for children.

Attendees enjoyed traditional Bihari Holi delicacies, including malpua, kathal sabzi, dahi vada, and thandai, while a DJ played Bollywood Holi-themed music. Adults participated in interactive games, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Community leaders Neelam Dwivedi, Dr. Saket Sinha, and Harish Kolasani shared messages of unity and empowerment. The program was emceed by BJUS members Pankaj Kumar, Anita Srivastava, and Sweta Jairath.

BJUS president Shikha Kumari highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Today’s event is a testament to our community’s rich cultural heritage and the strength of our collective spirit. It was truly heartening to see families, friends, and community leaders come together in celebration of both Holi and Women’s Day.”

The Bihar Jharkhand Association of Midwest (BJUS), founded in 1988, fosters cultural unity by bringing together people from the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and beyond. It organizes cultural, educational, and humanitarian activities, promoting heritage, community engagement, and leadership while serving as a voice for the Indian diaspora in the Midwest.
