Brain hemorrhage survivor Ashok Rajamani to lead talk at NY rehab center

Ashok Rajamani, an Indian American author, speaker, and activist, will share his inspiring survival story at Emerge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Glen Cove, New York, on Jan. 31. Rajamani is widely known for surviving a full-throttle brain hemorrhage at the age of 25.

He was the keynote speaker at the Brain Injury Association of NY State (BIANYS) Conference 2024. For the Emerge Nursing and Rehabilitation event, Rajamani will talk about his journey from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a book signing.

The event will be held at the rehabilitation center, located at 2 Medical Plaza. Glen Cove is a leading facility specializing in the treatment of traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological conditions.

Rajamani is best known for his memoir The Day My Brain Exploded: A True Story, which details his incredible recovery after a near-fatal brain hemorrhage. His story is one of resilience, recovery, and hope, and the memoir has garnered global praise, including from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jane Smiley. The book’s darkly comedic insights into his ordeal have made it a standout in the memoir genre, and it is now being adapted into a motion picture.

In addition to his memoir, Rajamani has written Imagine Carnivalesque, a work of cultural criticism, and If These Saris Could Talk, a flash fiction piece performed by actress Zehra Jane Naqvi. His writings have appeared in esteemed publications such as Danse Macabre, 3:AM Magazine, and South Asian Review.

Rajamani is also an artist and activist who uses his personal story to inspire others. “Surviving the impossible is possible, and I hope my story helps others believe they can overcome anything,” he says. His message of hope and resilience has made him a sought-after speaker for those facing significant challenges.
