Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, emphasized the important role of the diaspora as "India's strongest brand ambassadors" during his visit to Belgium and Luxembourg on Jan. 20.
As part of his trip, the Minister engaged with the Indian community, including students, and senior faculty at KU Leuven University in Belgium.
While addressing the Indian diasporic students, Goyal said, “Some of you may choose to return home, start your venture, experiment with new ideas, and even embrace the possibility of living in India.”
“But for those of you who decide to stay wherever you are, and seize whatever opportunities come your way, remember to stay true to yourself. No matter where you go or what you do, carry a little bit of India with you—in your mind and your heart.”
“Maintain a sense of concern for those children who haven't had the privilege of quality education or the same opportunities. Think about how you can help. Maybe you can inspire a child from your village to pursue an education at a prestigious institution like KU Leuven, or help identify a promising student who could excel in a PhD program,” he also urged the students to think about those less fortunate and help them.
During the interactions, he highlighted India’s transformative journey over the past decade, marked by structural reforms, innovation, and decisive leadership.
Reflecting on his visit, Goyal shared on X, “Delighted at the engaging interaction with Indian students of the @KU_Leuven University in Belgium, which also saw the participation of senior faculty members. I spoke about the remarkable growth of India in the last decade driven by structural reforms, innovation & decisive leadership. Urged the students to be part of this success story during the Amrit Kaal. Also, answered questions from students on various issues including India's economy, improving ease of doing business, sustainable development, and trade agreements.”
