Chandigarh University in Punjab has launched a rehabilitation program aimed at assisting Indian youth repatriated from the United States.

The program named ‘Udaan’, announced by Rajya Sabha MP and university chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu, aims to provide free skill training, education, career mapping, employment, and entrepreneurship support.

Those seeking higher education will receive free enrollment at Chandigarh University, while job placement efforts will be coordinated with industries across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh.

“They have returned to India with shattered hopes, financial distress, and psychological trauma. With their dreams shattered, they now struggle to repay the debts. So it's our collective responsibility to ensure their proper rehabilitation and reintegration into society,” Sandhu said at a press conference.

Chandigarh University’s Technology Business Incubator will equip aspiring entrepreneurs with essential skills, risk assessment strategies, and guidance on government subsidies. Additionally, the university will facilitate job placements through job fairs.

Initially, the program will prioritize Punjab, which accounts for 126 of the 333 repatriated individuals. Haryana follows with 110 returnees, while others come from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and beyond. Most of these youth left India in search of better opportunities but returned facing financial and emotional hardships.
