'Chhaava', a movie based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj has taken the Indian box office by storm, crossing the ₹700 crore (approx. $8 million) mark at the box office to become the ninth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
The protagonist was the son and successor of the legendary hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who established the Maratha Empire in 1674 and emblazoned a path toward freedom for India after centuries of servitude. The film is about how the son who is portrayed in this movie as Chhaava, or lion cub, played a crucial role in keeping the quest for freedom alive.
