Chicago community honors Shardaben Haribhai Patel’s legacy

Sharda Haribhai Patel was remembered in a heartfelt memorial meeting, celebrating her legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering support.

The late Sharda Haribhai Patel, wife of the president of Bhartiya Senior Citizens of Chicago, was honored during a solemn gathering at the Rana Reagan Banquet Hall in Carol Stream, Illinois.  

She passed away on Feb. 12 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while in Gujarat, resulting in irreversible brain damage. 

The prayer service in Chicago,  organized by Bhavna Modi and the Manpasand team, was attended by notable dignitaries, including Sunil Shah, founder of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA). Mafat Patel, CEO of Patel Brothers, paid his respects at her funeral in India.

Fondly known as “Baa”, Sharda Patel's passing has left a profound void in the community. Her husband, Haribhai Patel, addressing the gathering expressed the deep sorrow of losing a lifelong companion, saying, “I have always told others that time is the medicine for sorrow, but today, I realize that life without one’s life partner is an unimaginable challenge.”

Renowned for her kindness, generosity, and devotion, Shardaben dedicated her life to nurturing those around her. Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Shardaben was instrumental in supporting her husband's professional endeavors. Her encouragement and quiet strength played a significant role in his success within the community.
