Indian-American physician Chittur A. Sivaram, a longtime professor at the University of Oklahoma (OU) College of Medicine and cardiologist with OU Health, has been named a Master of the American College of Cardiology (MACC).

The MACC designation is awarded annually to only four members of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in recognition of their lifelong dedication to cardiology, excellence in patient care, education, and scholarship.

“I am honored to receive master designation from the American College of Cardiology and privileged to work with its members across the nation in advancing the field of cardiology,” Sivaram said. “It has also been my honor to witness so much growth in cardiology at the OU Health Sciences Center in each of our mission areas of education, patient care and research. I cherish my work family here on campus.”

“This is an incredible honor and a capstone recognition of Sivaram’s illustrious career; to be the first such designee in the history of our state is even more special. We at the College of Medicine are very proud of him,” said Ian Dunn, executive dean of the OU College of Medicine.

Sivaram has been with the OU College of Medicine for 32 years and currently serves as vice chief for education and training in the section of cardiovascular diseases and vice chair of medicine for undergraduate medical education. He previously directed the cardiovascular diseases fellowship program and served as associate dean for continuing professional development.

A dedicated educator, Sivaram has mentored medical students, residents, and cardiology fellows, earning numerous university teaching awards, including the Stanton L. Young Master Teacher Award and the OU Regents Award for Superior Teaching. His former trainees hold leadership positions in cardiology across the country.

Sivaram has authored nearly 70 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an associate director for Cardiovascular Imaging Case Reports, a journal of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is also a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and a master of the American College of Physicians.
