The Coblentz Society has named Indian American professor Prashant K. Jain as the recipient of the 2025 Craver Award for his contributions to vibrational spectroscopy. Jain will receive the award at SciX conference, taking place from October 5 -10, 2025 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Northern Kentucky.
Jain is the G. L. Clark Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign,, where he researches nanoscale light-matter interactions and energy conversion. His work has led to groundbreaking discoveries, including plasmon resonances in quantum dots and plasmonic redox catalysis.
In addition to his role in the Department of Chemistry, he is a professor in the Materials Research Laboratory and an affiliate of Physics and the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center (IQUIST).
Jain has authored over 120 scientific papers, earning more than 34,000 citations, and has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier Scopus. His work has been recognized, among other awards, by a Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering, the Leo Hendrik Baekeland award, the ACS Kavli Emerging Leader in Chemistry award, and an NSF CAREER award.
Jain earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Georgia Tech, where he studied under M. A. El-Sayed. He later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University and was a Miller Fellow at UC Berkeley before joining the University of Illinois.
The Coblentz Society established the Craver Award in 2007 to recognize young professionals who have made significant contributions to applied analytical vibrational spectroscopy. The award is named in honor of Clara D. Craver, a leader in infrared vibrational spectroscopy who played a key role in developing spectral databases that underpin modern vibrational spectroscopy.
