Colorado State University will hold its third annual International 5K Color Run on March 29 to commemorate Holi, the festival of colors.
The event hosted by the Office of International Programs and the Indian Student Association at CSU will raise funds for international student scholarships and foster community engagement.

Originally established in 2023 as the “Run for Relief” to support international students displaced by conflict, the event has since expanded to assist students from diverse backgrounds and causes. In 2024, the initiative partnered with the Indian Student Association to incorporate the Holi festival into the event.
“Our desire to expand the event aligned with the Indian Student Association and their desire to do more on-campus to celebrate the Holi Festival,” said Stene Verhulst, director of the International Enrollment Center. “So we married our run with their desires, and 2024 brought about the colors while still focusing on supporting international students in conflict and/or crises.”
Proceeds from the Color Run will contribute to the International Enrollment Scholarship fund, which helps bridge financial gaps for admitted international students at CSU. Additionally, participants can support the Indian Student Association by purchasing a limited-edition sticker during registration, with proceeds going directly to the organization.
“It’s a chance to tell a story about who our students are, the Holi festival, and how participants are directly supporting scholarships to enhance the international student experience at CSU,” Verhulst added.
“Holi, for me, has always been about joy, unity and creating unforgettable memories with loved ones,” said Vidusha Raman, a graduate student at the School of Public Health and an international student from India. “Growing up, I looked forward to this festival every year, as the entire atmosphere would be filled with laughter, excitement and, of course, bursts of color everywhere.”
The event will feature bursts of color throughout the 5K course, reflecting the festive spirit of Holi. Participants will receive a T-shirt with their ticket purchase, ensuring they can fully embrace the colorful experience.
