Daughter's illegal journey to US for marriage ends in deportation

The woman's return has raised concerns about illegal migration routes and the rising number of young people trying to reach the US illegally.

Among the 104 Indian deportees who arrived in India from the United States on February 5, a 26-year-old unmarried woman from a village in Amritsar district recounted a harrowing journey.

The woman, who had been sent to the United States via an illegal (dunkie route) route by her family, crossed into the United States from the Mexico border. Upon learning of their daughter’s deportation, the woman’s uncle and brother immediately traveled to the Amritsar airport to receive her.
