Deepak Nagrath receives UMich faculty award
He was recognized for his work in cancer cell metabolism and leadership in transcriptional medicine.

The University of Michigan has honored Deepak Nagrath with the Departmental Faculty Award, sponsored by the College of Engineering (CoE).
This recognition celebrates his research on cancer cell metabolism and his national leadership in transcriptional medicine.

Nominated by the department of biomedical engineering (BME), Nagrath has been widely recognized for his innovative work on how the tumor microenvironment fuels cancer cell growth. His research provides crucial insights that could shape future therapeutic strategies.
Beyond his contributions to cancer research, Nagrath is a key leader at the Center for Transcriptional Medicine (CTM), which brings together more than 40 researchers from seven universities. The center focuses on developing mRNA-LNP therapies to address end-stage organ diseases, pioneering novel approaches to regenerate damaged tissues and organs.
His work was recently featured in the U-M Rogel Cancer Center’s Illuminate magazine, highlighting his team’s efforts in decoding cancer metabolism and the complex interactions within the tumor environment.
Nagrath earned his bachelor of technology in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and his MS in applied mathematics and PhD in chemical and biomolecular engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
