The United Nations celebrated the 2024 "Diwali Stamp - The Power of One" Awards on Dec. 6, 2024, honoring diplomats who have made exemplary contributions to global peace and diplomacy.
Organized by the Diwali Foundation USA, the event highlighted the essence of Diwali—the victory of light over darkness and unity over division—while celebrating the UN's mission to promote harmony and understanding.
This year's awards were presented to distinguished diplomats: Finance Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente from Mexico, Ambassador Ferit Hoxha from Albania, Ambassador Tarek Ladeb from Tunisia, and Ambassador Olof Skoog from Sweden & EU. These individuals were recognized for their exceptional efforts in fostering peace and building bridges among nations.
The awards, spearheaded by Ranju Batra and Ravi Batra, visionary leaders of Indian origin and advocates for cultural inclusivity, have become a beacon of hope in the international community.
As Chair of the Diwali Foundation USA, established in 2017 by Ranju Batra has been instrumental in ensuring the significance of Diwali is recognized on an international scale, including its acknowledgment by the United Nations.
The 2024 ceremony was co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Chile, Georgia, Ghana, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kiribati, Morocco, and Trinidad and Tobago, along with the UN Alliance of Civilizations. It reaffirmed the power of diplomacy and peaceful collaboration, reflecting the shared commitment to a brighter and more inclusive future.
