Diwali lights up Times Square, Senate Majority Leader attends celebrations

New York’s Times Square celebrated Diwali festivities; during the event, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer honored Chandrika Tandon with the Woman of the Year Award and Raja Rajamannar with the Man of the Year Award for their contributions to business and community.
Schumer shared his joy on X, saying, "I was so proud to celebrate Diwali, a festival that honors the triumph of good over evil, with the Indian-American community in the heart of Times Square!"

The event was organized by Indian-American leader Neeta Bhasin, drawing thousands and featuring lively cultural performances.
Prominent figures, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar, joined the festivities.
The celebration ended with a dazzling fireworks display, marking Diwali’s growing prominence in American public life.
