Dr. Nalanda Roy, an Indian-origin professor of Political Science and International Studies at Georgia Southern University, was recently awarded the prestigious Noam Chomsky Global Connections Shining Star Research Award.
This recognition highlights her outstanding contributions to global affairs, international relations, and South and Southeast Asian maritime security.
Roy, who also coordinates the Asian Studies program at Georgia Southern, is known for her extensive research and writing in the fields of international relations and security.
She has also authored several influential books, including Bitter Moments – The Story of Indonesian Fragmentation and The South China Sea Disputes – Past, Present, and Future. Her work also covers critical issues such as immigration, security, and nonviolent resistance, with numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters to her name.
In addition to her research, Roy has received several prestigious awards, including the Dr. Saba Jallow Inclusion Champion Award, the Award of Excellence, and the Georgia Southern Women in Research Soar Award. She has also been honored for her work in creating An Integral History: Asian Studies Digital Archive.
Roy's professional contributions extend beyond her university roles. She serves as a senior editor at the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies and is an editorial board member for several respected journals. She is also a visiting scholar at the Center for Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in India.
