Third-largest cricket stadium in the world, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, will honor legendary cricketer Jhulan Goswami by renaming its Block B gallery after the former India pacer.

The stand is set to be inaugurated on January 22, 2025, during India Women’s first T20I against England.

Goswami, regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in women’s cricket, retired two years ago after a 20-year career. She still holds the record for the most wickets in women’s ODIs, having taken 355 wickets across 12 Tests, 204 ODIs, and 68 T20Is.

Nicknamed "The Chakda Express," Goswami became a trailblazer for women’s cricket in India and a global inspiration. Since retiring, she has served as a mentor for Bengal’s senior women’s team and contributed to the Women’s Premier League.

The move aligns Goswami with other cricketing greats, as Eden Gardens already features stands named after Sourav Ganguly, Pankaj Roy, and former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) presidents Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt.

The inauguration event is expected to celebrate Goswami’s impact on Indian cricket and mark a significant milestone for women’s sports in the country. Fans and former teammates alike are anticipated to gather in large numbers to honor the former fast bowler.
