Eid celebration at Indian Consulate unites communities
Consul General of India in New York lauded the Indian diaspora for preserving and celebrating the spirit of Eid in their adopted homeland.

In collaboration with the Indian American Muslims of North America (IMNA), the Consulate General of India in New York hosted Eid celebration that brought together community members, faith leaders, dignitaries, and elected officials under one roof.
The evening’s program, which commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Qari Hafiz Faizan Mohammed Khan, centered on themes of reflection, unity, and celebration. Nimra Fatima, a young speaker, highlighted how the month of Ramadan shaped her identity and connection with her cultural and religious heritage.
Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan shared his childhood Eid memories in India and applauded the Indian diaspora for preserving and celebrating the spirit of Eid in their adopted homeland. Ahmed Shakir, the IMNA co-chair, expressed gratitude to the community and participants for their support, while the president Imtiaz Siamwalla emphasized the importance of community solidarity, and extended his support for future cultural initiatives.
Ilayas Quraishi, IMNA chairman, encouraged the community to stay engaged and foster inclusivity and leadership among the youth. “Every year, we aim to bring in the younger generation. Each of you is an ambassador of our rich culture and heritage.” Quraishi said India is their Janmabhoomi, and America is their Karmabhoomi. “We must not only join events representing India, we must lead them.”

Moreover, the Office of NYC Mayor Eric Adams honored IMNA’s dedication to cultural harmony and interfaith unity with a special citation. Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority leader, extended Eid greetings to the Muslim community in a special video message. He acknowledged the efforts of the diaspora in strengthening multicultural ties.
Several local leaders and artists were honored for their community service.
